What Charlie Kelman said in his final message to Leyton Orient as he heads back to QPR.
Charlie Kelman’s 2024/25 season at Leyton Orient ended after the team lost to Charlton Athletic in the League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
Despite Kelman’s efforts, including two goals in the semi-finals against Stockport County, Orient failed to secure promotion, losing 1-0 to Charlton at Wembley.
The striker returned to Queens Park Rangers and shared a heartfelt message with Orient fans on Instagram.
Kelman writes a heartfelt goodbye after playoff heartbreak.
Following the final, Kelman’s social media post read:
“Thank you, Leyton Orient, for everything. A special club for special people. This season has been an unbelievable journey, one that I will never forget. Once a ️, always a ️ ❤️.
The 23-year-old’s affiliation with the club is undeniable. Kelman joined Orient during their 2022/23 League-Two title-winning season and returned on loan this season for a successful year in League One.
Kelman finished the season as the League One top scorer and arguably the most important player in Richie Wellens’ squad, having scored 27 goals and six assists in 60 appearances across all competitions.
Charlie Kelman’s stats for Leyton Orient this season (as per Transfermarkt)
Kelman joins QPR with renewed confidence and a better reputation than before. After two underwhelming seasons in the Championship, this season has been a watershed moment, turning heads not only at Loftus Road but potentially throughout the EFL.
Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes QPR should give Kelman the opportunity to lead the line (exclusive to Football League World).
“He’s played in a side similar to QPR’s setup, and I believe his loan will boost his confidence.” There’s no doubt that they need to bring him back and keep him.
QPR’s managerial situation remains uncertain after Marti Cifuentes’ departure. The current instability raises concerns about his future plans, but it is clear that he has done everything he can to get a fresh start at Loftus Road.
Charlie Kelman’s legacy is secured at Orient.
While his time at Brisbane Road appears to be over, Kelman’s legacy at Leyton Orient is well established.
He leaves as a fan favourite, top goalscorer, and a player whose contributions nearly altered the club’s course. Though a return appears unlikely, the bond he formed with the club and its fans over several seasons will last.
Kelman has demonstrated his readiness for the next level by returning to the West after leaving East London. It remains to be seen whether QPR will continue to believe in him next season.
