What is going on with Tom Fellows at West Brom amid Everton interest?
It will be difficult for West Bromwich Albion to retain Tom Fellows, their gifted young midfield player, for the
upcoming campaign.
After concluding the 2024–25 Championship season in a disappointing ninth place, falling well short of their hopes
of returning to the Premier League, West Brom is working hard to rebuild their team under new head coach Ryan
Mason.
Although Albion has already signed George Campbell from CF Montreal, Aune Heggebo from SK Brann, and Nat
Phillips from Liverpool this summer, their preseason plans may still be hampered if they lose England under-21 star
Tom Fellows, who has reportedly drawn interest from two Premier League teams.
Albion have had to bat away interest in Fellows before
There is nothing new about Everton’s interest in Fellows. According to a February Football Insider story, Everton
and West Brom were unable to agree on a fee, therefore the trade fell through even though they had accepted terms
with Fellows for a move to Merseyside at the close of the January transfer window.
However, despite rumours that Everton may not have even made an official bid for the player in January of last year
—the Express & Star claims that Southampton made the lone approach for Fellows last season—that desire hasn’t
diminished and has resurfaced this summer.
Everton have “leap-frogged” Leeds, while West Brom are making “last-ditch” appeal to Fellows to stay
Tom Fellows finished the 2024-25 season with the highest number of assists in the Championship, at 14, while his
summer was spent with the England under-21 squad, who won the European Championships by beating Germany 3-
2 in the final.

Leeds United, who were recently promoted, have joined Everton in the competition for his services. However, it
appears like Everton will overtake Leeds in the competition to sign him, as evidenced by the events of the past seven
days.
“He’s 21 and if you look at his attacking stats this season in terms of goals and assists, 14 assists is incredible in a
team that finished ninth in the Championship,” Paul Robinson, the former Leeds custodian, told Football Insider
when he expressed his surprise at Leeds’ interest in Fellows.
However, Robinson cautioned that “Everton are ahead because of where they were in January with him,” and
because of their previous interest in the player, there has been a widespread perception that this is the case. Don
Goodman, a Sky Sports analyst, has stated exclusively to Football League World that “he would personally be better
served from another season in the Championship doing really well before maybe getting a shot in the Premier
League” from a different angle.
Since the player signed a contract extension to the summer of 2027 in the beginning of 2024, West Brom is not
obligated to sell. Although Albion may have little choice but to sell if Everton is willing to raise their offer to a level
that the Baggies, given their financial situation and the failure of the sale of Mikey Johnston to Flamengo, cannot
refuse, it has also been reported that Albion will likely make a “last-ditch” effort to convince the player to stay at The
Hawthorns for the upcoming campaign.
