Rangers, who have the support of their new owners, 49ers Enterprises, are scheduled to return to preseason play later this month in preparation for Champions League qualifying. Martin said that before players return for fitness testing, he would anticipate hearing about additional additions. As of right now, several exits have been approved at the conclusion of contracts, while Oscar Cortes’ loan from Lens came with a purchase commitment. Lyall Cameron also signed a precontract before Martin arrived.

When Rangers could make first summer signings

“The focus has to be on evaluating the group as much as we can and making sure that we understand – which we already have a good understanding of – what areas we really need to strengthen in, and giving other people a chance as well,” the incoming manager told Rangers TV.

“I am aware that I want to give some really good players an opportunity, but I also hope that by then we will have some new members to assist the team. In football, people always surprise you, so I’m willing to be taken by surprise. Since the players haven’t had much time off, I’m excited to see what they can do. Hopefully, they’ll be in good physical condition and prepared to go.

“I’m quite proud, and it’s an incredible feeling. I am truly appreciative and humbled to be here. The football club and opportunities are fantastic. I can’t wait to get started. I returned from my vacation with my kids last night, and I’m exhausted and haven’t slept much.

Russell Martin on becoming Rangers head coach

Martin went on: “I’m eager to start now, but I had to go to bed for an early flight after signing my contract late last night. I hope that everyone is excited about the owners’ arrival. I was really impressed with Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell’s vision for the club after speaking with them for a long time.

“I’m eager for us to put that into practice and produce something of which we can all be truly proud. We seem to have very similar ideals and priorities, both individually and as a club. Since we left Southampton, I’ve had numerous chances to find employment again, but I didn’t want to accept a job only for the sake of it. It was simply the thrill of it all—new ownership, new vitality, the way Kevin and Patrick have been throughout the process, Andrew [Cavenagh], the Chairman, etc

It’s been an extremely fascinating few weeks. It has been rigorous, demanding, and difficult, but it should be in order to secure employment at this club. I’m quite happy. I was anxious to acquire this one as soon as I realized it would be a possibility for us. I stated right away that it was my top pick, and I’m now incredibly happy and honored to be here and occupy this position.
