Huddersfield Town aimed to become a top-flight team the next season after unexpectedly avoiding relegation in the 2017–18 Premier League season.
The Terriers had the difficult task of attempting to maintain the recruitment strategy that had made them successful while simultaneously bringing in players with a bit more pedigree and possibly a higher ceiling. The Terriers had experienced a spectacular rise under David Wagner‘s leadership in the previous two years.
But after Wagner left the team halfway through the 2018–19 season, they ended up finishing last, and they made a lot of blunders during the transfer window.
The addition of Ramadan Sobhi from Stoke City, who seldom played for a club in dire need of an offensive spark, would have to rank among the worst mistakes.

Less than six months after moving to Yorkshire, he returned to Al Ahly on loan. He has remained in Egypt ever since, spending the whole 2019–20 season there until joining Pyramids FC in 2020.
The unfortunate and forgettable campaign in Huddersfield
Although he was a member of the Pyramids team that won the CAF Champions League for the first time ever last month, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns over two legs in the final, Sobhi hasn’t done much to indicate that he could have realised the potential that he had suggested he had.
However, Huddersfield fans could interpret his arrival as a sign that the team is moving away from the things that made them so successful in the transfer market in past years.
They may have overachieved before the summer of 2018, but in reality, they reverted to the norm after bringing in nine permanent players during the summer transfer window and Isaac Mbenza on loan.
Sobhi, who is now 28 years old, had his moments at Stoke but largely flattered to deceive. That was more than he ever shown at Huddersfield, and despite the relatively large outlay for him, he is now a forgotten man in a forgettable Town campaign.
