Why Birmingham City deal for Celtic star collapsed as Hoops pave way for Blues to sign ex-ace off Sunderland

Why Birmingham City deal for Celtic star collapsed as Hoops pave way for Blues to sign ex-ace off Sunderland.

After it caused a club favourite to leave Sunderland, the reasons why a Celtic star was passed over for a trade to Birmingham City have been revealed.

On the day of the deadline, all three clubs were entangled in a transfer triangle. Yang was unable to complete a deal

to join Chris Davies’ team because Celtic was unable to find a replacement and the team was being criticised from all

sides for their sluggish hiring practices. Kyogo and Tomoki Iwata, former colleagues of the Celtic coach and Blues

manager, are already part of his club.

Patrick Roberts was their backup plan as a result. Following the breakdown of the Yang deal, the former Hoops

winger, who won seven trophies in Glasgow earlier in his career, joined on a season-long loan from Sunderland.

According to transfer source Graeme Bailey, Birmingham City had to turn to Sunderland for winger reinforcement

because the Hoops were unable to finalise the transaction. After the window had closed north and south of the

border, Celtic finally confirmed Sebastian Tounekti as reinforcement on the left side.

Why Yang didn’t join Birmingham City from Celtic

He told EFL Analysis: “I believe that Birmingham pulled out of that one because they just weren’t willing to wait.
Obviously Celtic did get Sebastian Tounekti in but that was very late.Birmingham had the choice to hire Roberts, and
since they couldn’t afford to wait and then have no other choice, I believe they chose Roberts since they believe he is
equally qualified and the task needed to be completed.

The player made the choice. Given how costly a permanent deal is, I’m not sure how close Derby County was to one.

It was up to the player, but I doubt they would have had the money to accomplish that given how large it would have

been and his contract as well.

“Obviously, he saw Birmingham was a better option for him at this time, which again probably isn’t a huge surprise.”

Why Patrick Roberts made Birmingham City transfer move

Roberts was more than delighted to profit from the collapse of the transfer. “I am a victor,” he declared to the club’s

media. And this is a place and a club that aspires to achieve success. And after gaining promotion the previous

season, I can see that this team has the ability to have a successful season.

“It didn’t take much convincing. It’s a big club, and getting back to where Birmingham should be is an aim. Doing

what the club did last season is no small feat. It’s a hard league, I’ve played in it myself, so to go and get the points

record is something special. To join now is exciting, there’s a lot of momentum, and it’s a huge club.”

Celtic still has serious problems on the sides. Yang was left at the club after attempting to move on, while Daizen

Maeda has disclosed that he requested to depart this summer. Jota has a long-term injury, and with Nicolas Kuhn

leaving earlier in the window to Como, Yang and veteran James Forrest are the only obvious choices on the right side

of the flanks.
