Birmingham City star Jay Stansfield is hoping the club will make a new record signing this summer.

Birmingham City secured promotion to the Championship for 2025/26 after dominating the third tier.

In their promotion-winning season, the Blues achieved an EFL and League One record of 111 points.

Birmingham are expected to excel in the Championship upon their return, with the possibility of reaching the play-offs.

Jay Stansfield wants Birmingham City to break the transfer record.
Last season, the attacker signed from Fulham, setting a League One transfer record of more than £12 million.

As expected, rival fans have targeted Stansfield over the last year because of his price tag.

According to the Birmingham Mail, the Englishman has been open about his struggles as a result of his high transfer fee.

When doing so, he expressed hope that the Midlands club would go out and break their transfer record, taking the focus away from him.

He said, “I hope we bring someone in who is worth even more because that will take the burden off my shoulders!

“It’s what happens in football; you find it everywhere. As a young player from last season, with few people talking about you, it’s suddenly become common knowledge that a League One team has spent this much money.

Birmingham City’s owner comments on breaking the transfer record.
It’s good news for Stansfield, though, because Birmingham’s owner has agreed to break their transfer record on one condition.

In an interview last month, Tom Wagner said, “If we have the headroom, we will do it.

“We’ll see. At the end of the day, I believe that much of it boils down to comparing what we spend this year to what we will spend in the future. Where’s the talent? What’s the price? Where’s the value?

“All of those are questions that cannot be answered until the window opens, but you know we have high expectations while also looking for great value. I believe we did an excellent job last summer, and I am confident we will do the same this summer.”

Championship clubs are ‘fearful’ of Birmingham entering the summer season, as the club is expected to be one of the most aggressive in England.
