Why John Eustace will face real Derby County headache if Callum Brittain signs on at Pride Park
The East Lancashire team has already sold Danny Batth and Andreas Weimann to John Eustace’s team this summer.
The decision to bring Derby’s manager from Rovers in February caused a stir in the division because of their
divergent fortunes at the time.
The Rams battled to stay in the Championship, while Blackburn aimed for the playoffs.
After keeping Derby as afloat, Eustace is now hoping to add Brittain this summer.
The manager may wonder where other players in the team fit into his plans, even though the full-back is well
regarded at this level.
Callum Brittain’s arrival could see current Derby County defenders moved on

Together, the two made 50 appearances at the Championship last season and appeared to be just what the Rams
needed in that regard.
Wilson performed well when used in more offensive positions, allowing Eustace to play with wing-backs all season
long, while Nyambe served as a suitable backup.
Although it makes sense that Eustace would want to improve every member of his club, Brittain’s signing would
probably come with a hefty transfer fee.
Therefore, coupled with the Blackburn full-back’s talent, it would be expected to see him join as the first-choice
option in that department.
Wilson will no doubt feel he has proven himself capable of starting for a Championship side and wouldn’t be happy
playing second fiddle to Brittain.
| Kane Wilson – Derby County stats 2024/25, as per Fotmob | |||

Therefore, Brittain’s signing would ultimately indicate that Eustace is prepared to let the 25-year-old to leave Pride
Park.
Some might argue that Wilson is being treated unfairly because he was one of the Rams’ most dependable players
during their late-season surge to win the championship.
Eustace’s interest in the full-back, even in the absence of Brittain, indicates that he isn’t quite content with his
present crop, which may fuel more rumours about Wilson’s future this summer.
Derby County could optimise their budget in other areas
Eustace left Blackburn for Pride Park with the understanding that he would have greater financial flexibility in the
transfer market, and thus far, that has been the case.
The Rams’ intention to support Eustace and company this summer is demonstrated by their agreement to pay £5
million to buy Patrick Agyemang, a striker for Charlotte FC.
With the full-back still having one year left on his contract at Ewood Park and Rovers not ready to sell, Derby would
need to pay a hefty transfer fee to acquire Brittain.
