Why Plymouth Argyle have pulled out of Celtic, Stephen Welsh transfer deal

Stephen Welsh, a defender for Celtic, was previously connected to a Plymouth Argyle move that never happened. Now, it’s clear why the deal is off.

Since they were shorthanded in the center of their defense, it was first reported at the end of July that the Pilgrims had extended a loan offer to the Scottish team in order to temporarily transfer the defender to Home Park.

The Devon-based team had sent a loan bid to Celtic, according to Sky Sports News writer Anthony Joseph. However, there were few advancements in their pursuit after this, which was frustrating because the team was having defensive difficulties.

But since Argyle added two central defenders to their roster earlier this week—Alex Mitchell and Mathias Ross—Joseph has now stated that the deal is absolutely off.

The journalist also explained why Welsh’s transfer to the Premier League 2 never materialized and that Celtic is solely to blame for not being able to find a new home for the 25-year-old.

The cause of Stephen Welsh’s unsuccessful relocation to Plymouth Argyle was made public.

Welsh has been on the periphery of the Celtic team lately; last season, he was loaned to KV Mechelen in Belgium, but no long-term agreement could be reached.
