Sunderland will sign Enzo Le Fée on a permanent deal this summer if they get promoted
The uncertainty surrounding Sunderland’s ongoing promotion push could be a “big problem” for AS Roma, according to Italian reports.
Regis Le Bris’ side signed French playmaker Enzo Le Fée on loan from the Serie A giants during the January transfer window, and are understood to have an agreement in place to make his stay on Wearside permanent if the Black Cats return to the Premier League this summer.
But, with Sunderland poised to face a play-off campaign next month, reports from the continent suggest that Roma are becoming increasingly concerned about Le Fée’s future.
What has been said about Enzo Le Fée’s Sunderland future?
According to an update from RomaForever, the Giallorossi see the decision to send Le Fée to the Stadium of Light this winter as a gamble that they worry will not pay off.
Roma’s declared purpose in sanctioning Le Fée’s release was to recoup the transfer money they paid to prise him away from Stade Rennais last summer, but the ambiguity surrounding Sunderland’s promotion attempt is proving to be a “big problem” for the club. While there is still a potential that the Black Cats may improve, there is concern in the Italian capital that if Le Fée returns at the conclusion of the season, his worth may have decreased slightly, meaning that Roma will lose money on any future sale.
What has Regis Le Bris said about Enzo Le Fée recently?
Le Fée has only played one of Sunderland’s last five Championship games since returning from injury at the beginning of the month, with Le Bris opting to rest and rotate several key members of his team to ensure that they are healthy and fresh for next month’s play-off campaign.
To that end, the head coach has stated that he has no reservations about reintroducing Le Fée to his starting lineup when he believes the time is right. Speaking in a recent news conference, he said: “We were pretty strong with our triangles down the wide wings through the season, but we perhaps haven’t grown so much this one in the midfield
“This would be an excellent choice for the future. So, for the next several games, it will be critical to create this midfield triangle, and then in the play-offs, we will have to make decisions on the best alternative for the first game, the second game, and hopefully the third game. If we have more freedom and options, we will be in a better position. So we will build this and then make a decision.
“Enzo is incredibly adaptable and understands the system. With a new squad, I started with considerably less freedom since you have to learn the different positions and scenarios. After you’ve gained this experience, you can expand your options with the same background. Enzo has been playing in this system for ten years, so it comes naturally to him.
