Why Twyford was picked as best place to live in UK...

Known for its lively festivals and strong sense of community, Twyford has been named one of the best places to live

in the UK. But what else do we know about the area?

The initial residents of Wokingham hamlet were many railway workers who lived there while working on Brunel’s

bridges (the Maidenhead Bridge is seen in Turner’s painting “Rain, Steam, and Speed”).

One of the oldest pubs in Berkshire is located in Twyford.

The Duke of Wellington was built before 1450 and has been a pub from the early 17th century, according to early

accounts.

Earlier this month, Twyford ranked 35/1447 in Garrington’s Best locations to Live report 2025, placing it among the

top 50 locations to live. It had been at the top of the list before.

“Twyford’s clean, pollution-free air and low crime rate propelled it to 15th place in the wellbeing category,” a

representative for Garrington Property Finders stated.

Located not too far from Bucklebury, where Catherine, Princess of Wales, grew up, and Windsor, where she resides.

According to the Twyford Parish Council, “Twyford upholds and fosters a strong sense of community.”

With convenient access to Reading, Henley, Wokingham, and London, as well as the countryside just a short stroll

away via several lovely pathways, one may take advantage of the advantages of village life.

“Twyford, which has 7,000 residents, has thrived over the ages thanks to its first-rate communication

infrastructure.”

Every June, hundreds of people from all over the UK come to the Twyford Beer Festival to enjoy music and beers in

the sun while also helping to raise money for charity.

Loddon Nature Reserve is a peaceful haven, while Stanlake Park Wine Estate is well-liked for wine tastings and

vineyard excursions.

While working at the local post office, English novelist Flora Thompson—best known for Lark Rise to Candleford—

lived in Twyford for a short time.

The charming village was also home to BBC journalist John Sergeant, who is well-known for leaving Strictly Come

Dancing in 2008.
