Willie Miller: Aberdeen must secure at least four more signings before season starts.

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin must complete the vast majority of his summer transfer business before the Premiership season begins to give new players time to gel.

Aberdeen must fill roster voids with at least four new arrivals before their Premiership start against Hearts on August 4. It is critical that new acquisitions are completely incorporated and hammered into manager Jimmy Thelin’s style of play well before the Europa League play-off first leg on August 21.

So far, Thelin has signed four new players in preparation for a season in which the Dons will balance European league play with local duties.

Nicolas Milanovic, Kusini Yengi, Emmanual Gyamfi, and Nick Suman are four new recruits who have already had a significant impact.

Chairman Dave Cormack recently stated that he expects another “three or four” fresh additions throughout the window.

There are gaps in the Aberdeen squad

However, I believe Aberdeen require more than four new additions, as eight players left the club at the end of the season.

Kevin Nisbet, Oday Dabbagh, Jeppe Okkels, and Alfie Dorrington Jack MacKenzie, Jamie McGrath, Ross Doohan, and James McGarry all left Pittodrie. There are still gaps in the roster.

The squad will face numerous expectations and pressures when they play Euro games on Thursday and domestic games on Sunday. If Aberdeen want to be successful in Europe and domestically, they will need a larger and stronger squad than previous season.

Obviously, there is also an opportunity for budding young players to break into manager Thelin’s plans during preseason.

Thelin’s top aim is to construct a squad capable of fighting both domestically and in Europe.

You can’t have the European campaign ruining the League campaign.

The squad must be physically and mentally prepared for European League competition.

Aberdeen’s recent investment boost

Aberdeen has got a significant boost as chairman Dave Cormack and fellow director Tom Crotty invested £8 million in the club.

There is also a projected £5 million boost from qualifying for the European league stages, which will run until at least late December. I’m confident that manager Thelin will receive a portion of those money to further enhance the squad during the summer window.

A substantial portion of the additional £8 million investment will go towards the planned development of a new full-size indoor arena at Cormack Park.

An enclosed pitch will be quite handy during the harsh winter weather.

It would be ideal to have facilities that allow the manager to operate in comfortable conditions regardless of the weather.

Key tool in talks with signing targets

It will enhance an already remarkable facility at Cormack Park. The training complex will also be useful in persuading potential signings to move to Aberdeen.

When targets evaluate Aberdeen, they will examine the club’s structure in detail, including the training facilities available. Players want to work in a pleasant setting with excellent facilities, and the Dons surely provide that.

Cormack Park is another negotiating tool when it comes to signing targets. Furthermore, having the Scottish Cup in the Pittodrie trophy cabinet as proof of a winning mindset and ambition can aid in signing negotiations.

Aberdeen struggled to mix Conference League group matches with the Premiership campaign in 2023-24. That cannot happen again, which is why it would be ideal to have the vast bulk of permanent signings secured by the Premier League start.

The transfer market does not end until September 1, so there will still be plenty of time to make deals after the season begins.
