Willie Stevenson on Bill Shankly and Tony Waddington as Stoke City and Liverpool lead tributes

Stoke City is starting a hectic summer building a new team that meets Mark Robins’ demands and complies with the strict spending regulations set by the EFL.

Stoke’s difficulties were perhaps not surprising following yet another disappointing season in which two club managers, Narcis Pelach and Steven Schumacher, were both fired.

As it stands, they maintained their Championship status with a draw at Derby on the last day, but new manager Robins has a difficult task ahead of him in trying to turn around a team that not too long ago was frightening many Premier League rivals.

Although we don’t yet have all the information, we do know certain things about the Potters’ preseason. Lewis Baker, for instance, is still on Robins’ retained list, but veteran but injury-prone players Lynden Gooch, Jordan Thompson, Michael Rose, and Enda Stevens have all been discharged.

The EFL fixtures announcement on Thursday, June 26 is the next important date. This year, there is one significant alteration, though.

The upcoming season’s fixtures will be released at noon this year instead of 9 a.m. as is customary.

Clubs and their supporters will then find out the Carabao Cup’s first round draw at 4:30 p.m. same day, which will be shown live on Sky Sports News.

The Carabao Cup first-round matches will be held the week after the Championship first round, which is set to take place over the weekend of August 8–10.

On the day of the fixtures announcement, the Vertu Trophy group stage draw will also be shown on Sky Sports News starting at 2:30 p.m.

The 46 rounds of Championship fixtures are set to be played over 33 weekends, nine midweeks, and four bank holidays, according to the EFL.
