Wolves in tussle with Sunderland to land £1.2m English defender, but there’s a problem for both clubs.

Wolves fans are clamouring for fresh faces after the signing of Fer Lopez, and the club is thought to be competing with Sunderland for one target.

Lopez came at Molineux last week, becoming the club’s first addition of the season. Lopez, who costs £19.5 million, has big ambitions, but the club has been quick to dismiss speculation that he may replace Matheus Cunha. Wolves now need to keep the momentum going.

A handful of players have already departed, and Semedo is also expected to leave Wolves as his contract expires in just a few days. There is now speculation that Wolves are interested in signing an English centre-back.

TEAMtalk has reported that Wolves are interested in signing Japhet Tanganga, who is currently with Millwall. Tanganga has been at The Den since last year, coming from Tottenham Hotspur. Surprisingly, Tanganga’s contract has a £1.2 million release clause, which numerous clubs are expected to exercise this summer. However, Wolves are not the only team interested; Sunderland is also interested, as they seek to strengthen ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Because TEAMtalk reported that Tanganga could reject the Premier League in preference of a move elsewhere.

In a blow to both clubs, one ‘unnamed’ Bundesliga outfit is reportedly interested, as are clubs in France and Turkey. Millwall are resigned to lose Tanganga, who was an outstanding defender in the Championship last season.

However, Wolves have already expressed an interest in Tanganga, and they may be determined to persuade him to join.

Tanganga could make for a smart signing by Wolves

Tanganga is someone to keep an eye on because he will certainly be on the move during this window, following the season he just finished.

He appeared in 27 top-flight games for Tottenham. Tanganga is extremely versatile and can play right-back, so he might be a good competition for Matt Doherty in Wolves’ back three.

However, according to the story, he prefers to travel overseas, so Wolves may need to launch a charm assault if they want to attract him to Molineux.
