Wolves keen on signing “special” £45m forward from Premier League rivals
According to transfer guru Graeme Bailey, Wolverhampton Wanderers are now expressing interest in acquiring a “special” forward from a rival Premier League team this summer.
Wolves’ Premier League status was really in doubt at one point this season, but they have had a stunning turnabout at Molineux, winning their past five games in a row to pull 17 points clear of the bottom three.
With the knowledge that his team will be in the top division the next season, Vitor Pereira can now begin making plans for the summer. Given that Matheus Cunha may be close to joining Manchester United, there may be a special need to bolster the offensive positions.
Sem Steijn, an attacking midfielder for FC Twente who has been in outstanding form this season—scoring 23 goals in the Eredivisie—was linked to a move by the Old Gold earlier this month.
Although Steijn’s performances in the Netherlands suggest he might somewhat replace Cunha’s goals, his inexperience in a top European league may raise some concerns.
In a story for The Boot Room, Bailey said that Wolves might now try to recruit Joao Felix of Chelsea, a forward with a wealth of top-level experience who has been informed he can talk to teams about a move this summer.
The Blues have decided that Felix is surplus to requirements, which may lead to a move to Molineux. The Old Gold has expressed interest in a loan move, although West Ham United, a Premier League competitor, may compete for his services.
The Portugal international cost £45 million to bring to Stamford Bridge, but it’s unknown how much Chelsea would need to pay to approve a permanent exit.
The 25-year-old has had a challenging 2024–25 season after being sent on loan to AC Milan, where he has not established himself, failing to score and recording just one assist in Serie A.
With seven goals and three assists for Barcelona in La Liga last season, the Portuguese forward’s prior performances suggest he might rekindle his career at Molineux.
The former Barcelona player has a wealth of top-level experience after making occasional impressions when playing for Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, and former colleague Alvaro Morata has praised him as a “special” player.
Felix has showed enough encouraging signals to suggest that he may be an exciting addition to Wolves, even though the transfer to Chelsea hasn’t worked out. If the forward were available on loan, it would be a low-risk acquisition.
