Wrexham’s promotion-winning midfielder Ollie Rathbone has described his wedding day as the “best day of my life” after tying the knot over the weekend – with heartfelt messages from stars Kaitlin Olson, James McClean and teammate Elliot Lee making the occasion even more special.

 

Rathbone, a pivotal figure in Wrexham’s climb back into League One, beamed with joy as he exchanged vows in front of family, friends, and a few surprise well-wishers from the football and entertainment worlds. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable few months both on and off the pitch, but he admitted nothing could top saying “I do.”

 

Speaking after the ceremony, Rathbone said, “It’s been a whirlwind season, and promotion with Wrexham was unforgettable. But this… this is the best day of my life. I’m just so grateful.”

 

Adding an extra layer of magic to the celebrations were surprise video messages from actress Kaitlin Olson – known for her role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and wife of Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney – and Republic of Ireland international James McClean.

 

In her message, Olson jokingly welcomed Rathbone to the “Wrexham family union” and said, “Rob told me how big a part you’ve played in this team. Congratulations on your wedding – here’s to more silverware… and maybe fewer sleepless nights!”

 

McClean, who previously faced Rathbone in the EFL Championship, also sent his warm regards. “You’ve been brilliant this season,” the veteran winger said. “Congrats on the wedding, mate. Wishing you and your wife a lifetime of happiness – and hopefully another promotion to celebrate soon!”

 

Closer to home, Wrexham teammate and midfield partner Elliot Lee, who shared the journey to promotion with Rathbone, posted a touching tribute on Instagram. He wrote, “Couldn’t be happier for you, brother. An unreal season, and now a day you’ll never forget. You deserve all of it.”

 

Rathbone’s rise at Wrexham has made him a fan favourite. Signed last summer from Rotherham United, his combative presence and technical skill quickly earned him a starting role, with several standout performances in key matches. His contribution was particularly vital in the closing stages of the season as Wrexham sealed back-to-back promotions under the Hollywood-backed ownership of McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

 

Though the club is currently in its off-season, the spirit and camaraderie shown at Rathbone’s wedding highlight the tight bond within the squad – a factor many credit for their on-field success.

 

With League One football on the horizon and a new chapter in his personal life beginning, Rathbone now turns his attention to both family and football. “We’ll enjoy a short honeymoon, then I’ll be right back to work,”he smiled. “There’s more to achieve with this team. But first, I just want to enjoy this moment with the people I love.”
