Wrexham are preparing to begin negotiations with Josh Windass about a contract after he was released by his old club Sheffield Wednesday, according to BBC Wales.

Wrexham enters the off-season on a high note after securing their third consecutive promotion. The Red Dragons, who have qualified for the Championship, are keen to establish themselves as a competitive force in England’s second division.

Following a second-place finish in League One, the Welsh club will aim for a solid start to the 2025/26 season. They’ve already strengthened their roster with the additions of Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward, as well as the big-money signing of New Zealand international Liberato Cacace.

Manager Phil Parkinson is likely to continue to strengthen his team, with another forward acquisition now firmly on his radar.

According to BBC Wales, Wrexham are preparing to begin negotiations with now-free agent Josh Windass about a move to Wales.

Windass left Sheffield Wednesday this week by mutual consent. He was one of many players who were dissatisfied with the club owing to unpaid wages concerns.

He has no shortage of suitors after his release. Several Championship clubs, as well as Scottish club Rangers, have expressed an interest in him.

However, Wrexham are seeking to act quickly to acquire Windass’ signature.

A prospective alliance in the works

If Wrexham win the race for Windass, the Red Dragons might have a very interesting striker partnership. With Ryan Hardie already at the club after joining from Plymouth Argyle, they will have two strong Championship forwards.

The two would also make an excellent match. Windass like to drop slightly deeper and look for the ball at his feet, whilst Hardie prefers to run the channels and move the defence to create space for Windass to operate in.

Last season, they scored a total of 23 goals in the Championship for two below-average teams. If they can get close to those numbers next year, Wrexham will be overjoyed.

There’s plenty more to do

Wrexham have not made the same market impact as their fellow promoted side, Birmingham City.

However, the signings they’ve made appear good. However, the Championship appears to be in great shape this season. To avoid relegation, the Red Dragons will need to make significant signings.
