Bobby Pointon had a particularly memorable 2024-25 season.
The Bradford City forward and Low Moor native understood the Bantams’ stunning ascent and what it meant better than anyone.
It was natural that it was won in the club’s annual memorial fixture four decades after the Valley Parade Fire Disaster, which explains the outpouring of passion following the final whistle against Fleetwood.
And, having been a supporter when City were previously promoted to Wembley Stadium in 2013, Pointon felt an extra sense of appreciation.

He explained, “everything seemed as if everything was written in the stars. It’s also been forty years since the fire, which adds to the specialness of the occasion.
“I’ve been here as a fan and saw the challenges, so to come through as a player and help us get out of the league is incredible.
“I was present at Wembley when we were promoted. I’ve never seen a ‘autos’ before, so I’m excited to be a part of it.
“It was great to see my family up there and everyone rejoicing, and my missus even came on the pitch. These people invest their time into it, care about you, and give you a lot of support, and they deserve it too.
“At the start of the season, I wanted to contribute as much as possible and play as many games and I have played a lot and contributed a lot, so I am proud of being involved.”

City made an early summer move to capture midfielder Max Power on a two-year contract after his contract with Danish Superliga club AGF expired.
The 31-year-old has a strong track record in League One, having won the title three times with Wigan in 2015-16, 2017-18, and 2021-22, as well as Wembley triumph with Sunderland, where he captained them to the 2020-21 EFL Trophy.
Power stated, “I am happy to get the purchase completed so early in the summer and eager to get started. “I was paying careful attention to how the season ended and was as thrilled as everyone else here when the goal was scored in the 96th minute! I couldn’t wait to arrive here.”
City manager Graham Alexander added: “I am delighted to begin our summer recruitment by bringing Max to the club. He provides a wealth of expertise, including promotions, and proven quality.”
