“You can’t doubt” – Claim made on Kevin Nagle ownership at Huddersfield Town
After dropping to the third division for the first time since 2012, many thought that Huddersfield Town would be
able to return to the second division at the first attempt, but performance has left fans dissatisfied. The West
Yorkshire team will remain managerless, with Jon Worthington taking over as interim manager after Michael Duff
was fired. However, he has struggled in his role, and a permanent replacement must be found. Huddersfield Town’s
promotion challenge never really got going in 2024–25, and they are set for a second consecutive season in League
One after relegation 12 months ago.
Questions will have been asked of Kevin Nagle’s ownership in recent months, but he spent heavily in the January
transfer window, perhaps showing that he is willing to make the changes needed to help take Huddersfield back to
the Championship.
Verdict made on Nagle’s ownership at Huddersfield
club’s current ambitions even though it hasn’t yet paid off.
The American billionaire must continue to demonstrate that he is committed to the long term at John Smith’s
Stadium since bringing in a new face to the touchline is a top goal for the summer.
Graham Rayner, a fan pundit for Football League World, has been questioned if he thinks Nagle is looking out for
the club’s best interests.
“Am I sure that the owner has the club’s best interests at heart?” he asked FLW. Indeed, I am. However, given how
frustrating and terrible things have gotten, I do believe there is a genuine chance that they could even be toxic. If
things continue like way, I wonder how long he will want to be involved.
“I think there is a chance that the fan base may split even further the next season and he might opt to leave if things
don’t turn out the way we want them to. He might just flag it to anybody wants it because he wouldn’t want to endure
the suffering.
“So, I do think he has the best interests of the club at heart,” Graeme added. I believe that he is also interested in the
community, etc. But in my opinion, he has come under fire because the individuals he has nominated to important
roles haven’t been the finest.
“Isn’t that eventually a part of the job? As a result, I do feel some sympathy for him and hope that he changes his
ways.
“But, it’s not been a great couple of years to start off your ownership at a club, I would say. I hope that he continues
to invest, to put the best foot forward and try to turn things around. But what you can’t doubt is he is committed to
doing that at the moment.”
Huddersfield supporters need excitement back at the John Smith’s Stadium
Since losing to Nottingham Forest in the 2022 Championship play-off final, the Terriers have been on a downhill
trajectory, and fans have good reason to be dissatisfied.
They should find comfort, though, in the fact that few teams recover from relegation to League One right away;
Derby County, Sheffield United, and Sunderland, for example, all require some time to move up out of the level.

---|---|---|
Season | Division | P. |
2019/20 | Championship | 18th |
2020/21 | Championship | 20th |
2021/22 | Championship | 3rd |
2022/23 | Championship | 18th |
2023/24 | Championship | 24th |
With the league possibly a little more open after Birmingham City’s promotion, there is no reason why Huddersfield
cannot return to the second division if Nagle manages this summer transfer market and appoints the appropriate
player.
However, the longer their problems persist, the harder it will be for fans to continue supporting the team financially
and attending games every week.
