Ipswich Town: Cameron Burgess linked with Valencia CF move.
Valencia, the Spanish giants, are the latest team connected with a bid for Ipswich Town centre-back Cameron Burgess. The 29-year-old has been at Portman Road since 2021, coming from Accrington Stanley. He helped the Blues win back-to-back promotions, rising from League One to the Premier League and made 18 appearances last season. His contract is slated to expire in the coming weeks, and while Town is in talks about a new deal, he’s taking the time to consider his choices. Burgess has already been linked with Girona and Rangers, and Valencia are the latest to express interest.
According to ElDesmarque, CEO Ron Gourlay spoke with the Australian international last week to explore a prospective move to Mestalla in the event of any defensive exits, with additional contact made in recent days. They say that a formal approach is inevitable if contract talks with bright youngster Christian Mosquera fall through, or if Eray Comert or Cenk Ozkacar leave this summer. Valencia finished 12th in La Liga last season, a significant improvement after hiring West Brom manager Carlos Corberan halfway through the season.

They are regarded as one of Spain’s most successful clubs, having won a league title, a Copa del Rey, and made it to the Champions League final in the twenty-first century. At the close of last season, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna indicated that conversations with Burgess had been ‘going on for quite a while’, but nothing was certain about his future. “I think irrespective of whatever happens in the summer, Cameron’s always going to go down in the folklore of this club now,” added the former Liverpool player.
“He’s someone we think is very significant, and if it’s the best thing for him and his career to stay and be a part of it next year, I’d be more than pleased with that from my standpoint, and I’d like to have him around. “If Cameron’s or the club’s perspective differs, it will not change significantly in my opinion over the last three years. “So, yeah, I don’t think there’s anything 100% concrete either way, but I know it’s something that’s been discussed for a while.” Burgess has recently returned from international duty, where he helped Australia qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
