According to manager Chris Wilder, Sheffield United’s owners are “in it for the long haul” and have assisted him in overcoming his sadness at not being promoted to the Premier League
Following Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the Championship play-off final, it was inevitable that everyone’s efforts would be scrutinized, with some criticizing Wilder in particular. Co-owners Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy openly supported Wilder even before they finished taking over the team, but they went above and above by helping him in the midseason transfer market and giving him a new contract that would last for the following three seasons. Now there doesn’t seem to be much chance that they will tear it up.
“The owners have been incredibly positive,” Wilder said of the encouragement he got from the American duo both before and after Saturday’s loss. Their remarks meant a lot to me over the weekend, and they were providing me with excellent support in January. They have the long term in mind.
Midfielder Hamza Choudhury took over the right-back position after Harry Clarke failed to impress. However, Rosen and Eltoukhy are now firmly in Wilder’s corner thanks to the Blades’ turnaround from the ragged disaster that gave up more than 100 goals in the 2023–24 Premier League and his prior efforts.
