Reading FC star on Rob Couhig impact after signing new deal.

Reading midfielder Lewis Wing has confessed that the possibility to work with new owner Rob Couhig was a major motivator for accepting a new contract. The 29-year-old inked a three-year contract extension last week, marking the first new agreement in the Couhig era since the American toppled Dai Yongge’s eight-year rule on May 14. The former Middlesbrough player won Player of the Season in his debut season, and he has made 99 games in two years, captaining the team in the absence of Andy Yiadom.
Joining in 2023 after 18 months with Wycombe Wanderers, the fan favourite previously worked with Couhig and incoming CEO Joe Jacobson at Adams Park and admits that the prospect to do so again was tempting. “Ever since I walked through the door, it has felt like home,” Wing told the club. “That was the fundamental reason, as I had missed it throughout my career.
“With the new owners coming in, I’ve already worked with them, and I know how they manage a club and how successful they can be, so that was an important element. “Most of all, I want to return the fans for everything they’ve done for me over the last two years. I hope to continue my adventure with them and this football club.”
There are still 13 futures up for grabs this spring, with contracts handed to players ready to leave. This includes crucial players Joel Pereira, Amadou Mbengue, and Michael Craig, who are all under contract until June 30. Talks continue as attention shifts to the upcoming season, with pre-season plans set to be announced in the coming weeks.
