Dilan Markanday, a former Blackburn Rovers winger, joins promotion-chasing Chesterfield

Dilan Markanday has become Chesterfield’s first signing of the summer.

The winger has returned to Spireites on a three-year contract after having a great loan stint at the SMH Group Stadium in the first half of the 2024–25 campaign.

“I’m ecstatic and very thrilled. “It’s like coming home,” Markanday remarked. “I’m just relieved to cross the finish line and eager to resume playing football.”

There is no greater setting than this to truly support me in playing football, which is when I’m happiest.

Before being brought back from his loan stint by Blackburn Rovers in January, Markanday scored seven goals in twenty-four games in North Derbyshire.

After that, he spent the rest of the season with League One team Leyton Orient, where he made 17 appearances and scored three goals. After losing 1-0 to Charlton Athletic at Wembley Stadium, the London-based team advanced to the League One play-off final but narrowly lost.
