Exclusive: Don Goodman drops claim on Reading FC, Leyton Orient battle for L1 play-off spot

The Royals are presently seventh, although the two teams are even on points with only two fixtures remaining.
Noel Hunt’s team have won only one of their previous three matches, whereas Leyton Orient are on a four-game winning streak.
However, Reading will play Bristol Rovers and Barnsley in those final matches, while the London team will play Wycombe Wanderers and Huddersfield Town.
According to Goodman, the odds of securing the final play-off spot in League One this year are really 50/50.
On paper, he thinks Reading’s schedule is simpler, but in reality, he anticipates that the strain both teams are under will be the most challenge.
“It’s really a toss of a coin between Reading and Leyton Orient as to who will win and secure that last play-off spot,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.
| Team | P | GD | Pts | |
| 3 | Wycombe Wanderers | 44 | +28 | 84 |
| 4 | Charlton Athletic | 44 | +25 | 82 |
| 5 | Stockport County | 44 | +27 | 81 |
| 6 | Leyton Orient | 44 | +20 | 72 |
| 7 | Reading | 44 | +11 | 72 |
| 8 | Bolton Wanderers | 44 | -3 | 66 |
To place themselves in the position, they have both performed really well.
Reading obviously has the better schedule, so on paper, playing away to Bristol Rovers, who haven’t won in a long time, would seem advantageous.
“And then a match against Barnsley at home.” While Leyton Orient hosts Wycombe, who are keen to qualify for the automatics and have the best away record in League One, I believe it is for Reading.
It is obvious that Reading has the better-looking fixtures on paper, and that will be the acid test. After that, Leyton Orient will go to Huddersfield Town.
However, that does not imply that they will win; pressure will play a significant role, and it may be as straightforward as whoever can handle the pressure the best during the final two games will achieve the intended outcomes.
With a full schedule of games, the regular League One season will conclude on May 3.
