Exclusive: West Brom, Coventry, Oxford & Blackburn in 5-team chase for Peterborough player

Posh, which is widely regarded as a breeding ground for young talent in the lower leagues, had a somewhat disappointing season in League One last year, finishing 18th in the third tier standings.

However, they did win the EFL Trophy for the second time in a row, and they also helped develop Kwame Poku, one of the best players outside of the Premier League. With the aforementioned Dornelly drawing interest, Poku might not be the only player to leave London Road this summer.

According to FLW, four Championship teams and Premier League team Fulham are interested in Posh right-back Dornelly.

It can be disclosed here that Fulham had a January offer rejected for 20-year-old Dornelly, who has been capped at the under-20 level for England. The Cottagers have also made a bid for United’s teenage left-back Harley Mills, as reported by FLW this week, and they are now considering Dornelly as well in what could be a double raid of the Cambridgeshire team.

Four Championship teams, including managerless West Brom, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers, and Oxford United, are expected to join Marco Silva’s team in their bid for his services. Dornelly, who joined the Peterborough youth academy in 2013, has progressed through the ranks and was given his senior debut in August 2023 at the age of 18.

Dornelly, who made eight appearances for Darren Ferguson across all competitions last season, has made 36 appearances in the 2024–25 season and was Posh’s first-choice right-back for the majority of the season.

However, any team interested in Dornelly will have to pay a high price because he signed a new long-term contract in August 2024 that runs through the summer of 2028, meaning the young player still has three years left on his contract at the Weston Homes Stadium.
