Kevin Nagle sent blunt Huddersfield Town message as manager hunt drags on

Since the Terriers have not yet named a replacement for Michael Duff, Sky Sports analyst Lee Hendrie thinks that

Huddersfield Town’s management search needs to be “resolved pretty quick.”

After the Terriers fell out of the League One play-off spots on March 9, previous manager Duff was fired, leaving

Town without a permanent head coach for over two months.

Although academy director Jon Worthington was put in temporary control for the rest of the season, he oversaw two

wins and eight losses in the final ten games, causing Town to finish 10th in the division and 14 points outside the top

six.

Stephen Robinson, the manager of St Mirren, has been connected to Town in recent days. According to journalist

Alan Nixon of the Sun, the 50-year-old is the Terriers’ “top target” for the position.

Stephen Robinson, the manager of St Mirren, has been connected to Town in recent days. According to journalist

Alan Nixon of the Sun, the 50-year-old is the Terriers’ “top target” for the position.

“Huddersfield Town is obviously looking for a new manager, head coach, and Stephen Robinson from St Mirren has

been on their radar, as [well] a few other clubs by all accounts,” Hendrie said in response to the rumour in an

interview with Football League World. They had a respectable season and finished in the top half of the Scottish

Premiership.

We’re approaching the point in the year where the season is coming to a conclusion; someone needs to step in and

take over so they can add their own players and make their own change. Given how many players Huddersfield has

lost, there must be a solution, and it must be found quickly, in my opinion.

“I think you’re always looking at a bit of a gamble when you’re looking for managers who can come and take that role

on, unless you go for someone who wants to play a certain style of football, which Robinson likes to do, and knows

the league fairly well. Maybe that makes them the ideal fit.”

“If he’s linked and on the radar, I think it’s crucial that you make the big call and get someone in as soon as possible.

Maybe he’s the right fit. You’re looking at Huddersfield last season, and they just didn’t hit anywhere [near] the

heights they should have done after being relegated.

“It’s always a gamble I think when managers come down from Scotland. They haven’t had as many successful

managers, because it’s a hell of a different league, and you need to know leagues – League One is a tough one at that.

Do you occasionally compare the Scottish League to League One and the English Championship? Maybe, so I believe

that’s why they’ve considered him and thought he may be a good fit for them.

David Wagner, the 53-year-old who led Town to promotion to the Premier League in 2017, has also been linked to Town recently. TalkSPORT reported last week that the Terriers had extended an offer to the 53-year-old.

Sky Sports analyst David Prutton told Football League World about the potential of the German playing again at

John Smith’s Stadium: “David Wagner is bringing the old band together, and there are rumours that Stuart Webber,

the former head of football operations, is also returning to Huddersfield.”

“It’s a different set of circumstances, of course. The club now needs to get out of League One, whereas before, when

they climbed out of the Championship, they weren’t expected to even get into the Premier League, never mind stay

there for a couple of years.

They do need the players to leave League One, and I believe that’s what they haven’t had this season. However, I

think the magic he worked the first time around might be duplicated. Additionally, League One currently has a

number of very large teams in addition to those that have exploded through it.

“The football enthusiast recognises the link. Although the situation may be a little more difficult, I believe

Huddersfield will be established as one of the favourites to advance if he gets there.
