The Philadelphia Union have certainly had a difficult start to their campaign, gathering just seven points across their first 15 outings. While defensive frailties have persisted throughout, the attacking side of their game has also lacked sharpness, with only 18 goals scored as the MLS pauses for the 2026 World Cup break.
Several factors help explain the drop-off, including the exit of last year’s top scorer Tai Baribo, who netted 17 times in 2025, as well as the departure of regular striker Mikel Uhre, who left Subaru Park to join FC Midtjylland. Outside of Milan Iloski, the Union have struggled to find dependable goal production from other players, though that could be about to change.
Sullivan potentially back on Wednesday night?
One notable absence from Philadelphia’s early-season squad has been Quinn Sullivan, sidelined since last year with a torn ACL and leaving the team without a key offensive spark. Over 31 appearances in the previous season, the 22-year-old contributed to 11 goals, eight of which were assists.
Though Sullivan has yet to feature this season, a return may be imminent, as the Union hinted at his comeback through a recent social media post showing him back on the pitch alongside the date of their upcoming fixture against the New York Red Bulls.
Sullivan may not be the only one returning for that match Kai Wagner could also suit up for the Union for the first time since rejoining the club from Birmingham City in the English Championship.
Wednesday night’s matchup between Philadelphia and New York is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. EST.
