The Philadelphia Phillies are steadily approaching a .500 record after their disastrous season opener, and they’re beginning to resemble a playoff-caliber team again.

Their year started off terribly, likely due in part to a lingering letdown from a tough playoff loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies stumbled to a 9–19 start.
That poor performance led to manager Rob Thomson being let go, which seems to have ignited a turnaround. Since Thomson’s dismissal, the team has gone 12–4 and won five consecutive series.
Still, despite this hot streak, the Phillies are far from flawless. There are areas needing improvement, and one position stands out as needing an upgrade.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently outlined what each team would need if the trade deadline were today. For Philadelphia, bolstering the outfield is the top priority.
Outfield Help Is a Key Need

Though some might argue third base is a bigger issue due to Alec Bohm’s struggles, the outfield could also benefit from more offensive production.
Fortunately, Brandon Marsh has been outstanding this season and is on track for a potential All-Star nod. But beyond him, offensive output has been scarce.
Justin Crawford and Adolis Garcia have been the other primary starters, and neither has performed well offensively. Crawford, a highly regarded prospect, has recently shown some promising signs at the plate, but his overall numbers remain weak.
Garcia was acquired hoping for a rebound after two subpar years with the Texas Rangers. So far, he’s batting .222/.286/.348 with four home runs and 13 RBIs—disappointing production given he’s often hitting near the top of the lineup. As the Phillies aim to keep their momentum going, upgrading the outfield offense is a clear opportunity for improvement.
