Fortunately, this squad proved equal to the test. After surviving a relentless stretch packed with countless top-10 opponents, the Tigers emerge for the postseason whole and ready to take on anyone.

“Playing truly the toughest schedule in the country has been a real battle for a young team full of freshmen and sophomores,” head coach Butch Thompson said. “We’re gaining experience from it. We’ve put that to use, and in the end, what we’ve developed is a style of play we’ve seen a lot in Game Threes. That’s exactly what we ended up with.”

Auburn’s punishing schedule has forged the Tigers for a deep postseason push
The No. 4 Tigers saw their streak of six consecutive SEC series victories end this weekend, losing two of three games to No. 5 and SEC regular-season champion Georgia. Still, they managed a gritty win in the series finale, rallying from an early deficit to run-rule the Bulldogs 14-4. That victory followed two heartbreaking losses that could have easily left the Tigers demoralized heading into the final game.

Despite a shaky start, pitcher Alex Petrovic managed to quiet Georgia’s bats, giving the offense room to operate.

“Petrovic being able to settle in with an incredible amount of confidence and belief in what he’s doing, and the offense playing a lot of ball,” Thompson said. “We’re at our best when our entire offense is clicking and everyone is chipping in. We definitely had that today.”

As for the comeback, the decisive rally came in the fifth inning when the Tigers scored six runs, including Bub Terrell’s second home run in two innings, followed by Cade Belyeu’s first homer of the season.
