Despite a few occasional missteps from Will Stein, his recent performance on the recruiting trail has been unprecedented at least by the standards of modern Kentucky football. Outshining Mark Stoops in this regard is impressive enough, but assembling a top-10 national recruiting class is a whole different level.

In just the past week alone, Stein has secured four (yes, four) recruits for Kentucky’s 2027-28 class, rapidly building a roster that should hold its own against SEC and national competition. That alone should guarantee at least a bowl game.
As confirmed in a post by Rivals on X, three-star running back Mason Ball has officially committed to Kentucky, becoming the fourth pledge in that group. BBN, Stein has done it again.
Ball is now the third running back committed to Kentucky for the season after next, completing a backfield trio that could push the Wildcats’ offense to new heights.
Completing Stein’s Trio
Bryian Duncan Jr. and Kelsey Gerald (the latter having committed earlier this week), both three-star prospects, join Ball in Kentucky’s backfield. While no single back stands out as an every-down workhorse, together they form a formidable unit behind Jake Nawrot, the No. 2 overall quarterback.
If it comes down to that, you can count on Stein having his players ready to compete. Ball, in particular, brings speed and consistently high yardage to Kroger Field. Even if he joins as one of several options, his unique skill set should help him carve out a meaningful share of playing time.
Earning His Minutes
Ball, a high school track athlete, rushed for 1,401 yards and 27 touchdowns on 7.61 yards per carry as a junior, according to 247Sports. At 185 pounds and just under six feet tall, he drew serious interest from Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and North Carolina proof that Stein wasn’t the only major coach who saw the potential in this three-star standout.
As a Kentucky fan, it’s hard not to get carried away given the stock and resources Stein is clearly investing in his 2027 class. Immediate success is desirable (and, to some extent, necessary), but watching the head coach in Lexington plan so effectively for the future may be even more thrilling than what’s already on the table.
BBN, don’t forget to welcome Ball to the Big Blue Nation on social media. He’s the latest in a growing line of new Wildcats helping to drive a resurgent football program in the bluegrass.
