Kyle Schwarber continued his domination at Petco Park on Monday, launching his MLB-leading 21st home run to lead Jesús Luzardo and the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 shutout over the San Diego Padres. Brandon Marsh also hit a two-run homer for the Phillies, who managed only three total hits to open a six-game road trip through San Diego and Los Angeles, coming off a home stand where they scored just 14 runs over six games.
In the first inning, Schwarber drilled a full-count changeup from Griffin Canning (0-3) onto the right-field party deck. This marked his 11th career homer at Petco Park (including postseason) in 26 games, with seven coming in his last 13 appearances there. His most famous Petco blast remains a 488-foot shot off Yu Darvish in Game 1 of the 2022 NLCS the longest in the stadium’s 23-year history. Schwarber also hit a 465-foot homer there on Sept. 6, 2023.

Marsh added his fifth homer of the year in the seventh inning after Schwarber led off with a single. Luzardo (4-4) pitched six strong innings, allowing four hits while striking out six and walking two. Jhoan Duran earned his 10th save with a scoreless ninth, completing a five-hitter for Philadelphia.

San Diego’s offense sputtered again, loading the bases with no outs in the first only to see Luzardo strike out Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill before getting Nick Castellanos to ground out. The Padres also had runners on the corners with one out in the third before Machado grounded into a double play.
