AUBURN, Ala. The No. 4 national seed Auburn Tigers are set to begin their quest for the College World Series this Friday, May 29, as they host the Milwaukee Panthers in the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Auburn Regional at Plainsman Park .

First pitch is scheduled for noon CT, with the game airing exclusively on ESPN+ . The Tigers (38-19, 17-13 SEC) enter the tournament as the overwhelming favorite to win the regional round, boasting the nation’s No. 3 RPI ranking and having played the toughest schedule in the country .
“Full Attention” on the Horizon League Champs
While Auburn is the heavy favorite, Head Coach Butch Thompson is taking nothing for granted. Despite Milwaukee entering the weekend as the No. 4 seed with a 25-31 record, Thompson noted that the Panthers are the hottest team in the bracket, having won eight consecutive games to claim the Horizon League Tournament title .
“This Milwaukee club’s won eight in a row. So, they have our full attention,” Thompson said this week. “We’ve got to try to get the same standard effort that we’ve been putting out there that will be required in this first game of the regional” .

The Tigers’ focus remains on surviving and advancing, taking a “one day at a time” approach that has defined their season .
Ace Marciano Gets the Ball
As has been the case on most Friday nights this spring, Auburn will hand the ball to sophomore right-hander Jake Marciano . Marciano enters the postseason with a deceptive 5-5 record but boasts an elite 2.65 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP. He has been dominant in terms of control, striking out 100 batters against just 17 walks over 81.2 innings .
Behind Marciano, the Tigers possess what many analysts consider the best starting rotation in the regional, featuring Andreas Alvarez and Alex Petrovic . Thompson has not yet named a starter for beyond Game 1, noting that the bullpen strategy specifically regarding All-SEC reliever Jackson Sanders—will depend on the game’s complexion against Milwaukee .

A Balanced and Explosive Offense
Auburn’s lineup is just as dangerous as its pitching staff. The Tigers are paced by a veteran core that has been through postseason battles before. Catcher Chase Fralick, a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, leads a group of four players who have started at least 50 games and are batting over .300 .
Infielder Eric Guevara currently leads the team with a .362 average, while outfielder Bristol Carter serves as the “engine” of the offense with 30 stolen bases . Athletic Director John Cohen believes this group is in a great place, telling AL.com that the team is “really balanced” and possesses “one of the elite pitching staffs in the country” .
Regional Outlook
Auburn is listed as a heavy -256 favorite to win the regional according to DraftKings . However, the field is competitive, with No. 2 seed NC State and No. 3 seed UCF considered interchangeable contenders at +475 odds . The winner of the Auburn Regional will face the winner of the Lincoln Regional (hosted by Nebraska) in the Super Regionals next weekend .
Should the Tigers advance past Milwaukee, they will face the winner of Friday evening’s game between NC State and UCF on Saturday night .
