Manhattan, KS – The Kansas State Wildcats’ recruiting momentum shows no signs of slowing down under head coach Collin Klein. On Tuesday, the program secured a commitment from 2027 defensive back George Murray III out of Winder, Georgia, adding the 15th pledge to a rapidly growing recruiting class .
Murray, who plays for Apalachee High School, announced his decision shortly after concluding an official visit to Manhattan over the weekend. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back was part of a large contingent of 15 official visitors on campus, and his commitment signals a successful start to the summer recruiting push for the Wildcats .
A Fast-Paced Recruitment
The Wildcats moved exceptionally quickly to secure Murray’s pledge. Kansas State extended an offer to the Georgia native on May 14. Rather than allowing other programs to gain traction, the coaching staff immediately scheduled an official visit for the following weekend .
This swift action proved critical, as Murray had already scheduled an official visit to Michigan State for June 5-7. By getting him on campus first, Kansas State was able to close the deal before he could make it to East Lansing. The Spartans had been the first Power Four program to offer Murray just weeks prior .
Murray held offers from a variety of schools, including Northwestern, Arkansas State, East Carolina, Troy, Army, and several others, but the Wildcats emerged as the victors in this recruitment .
Fitting the Defensive Scheme
Murray is projected to play the nickel position in Kansas State’s defensive scheme. This was a significant selling point in his recruitment, as defensive backs coach Marcel Yates and nickel coach Armani Linton were the lead recruiters .

Building the 2027 Class
Murray becomes the 15th commitment for the Wildcats in the 2027 cycle, joining an impressive group of prospects. The class currently features four-star offensive tackle Brayden Harris and four-star tight end Ben Hynek, giving Kansas State the No. 30 ranked recruiting class in the nation and third in the Big 12 Conference according to 247Sports .
Other notable commits include offensive linemen Kelvin Eiwo and Jack Clayborne, defensive linemen Anitoni Tahi and Dawayne Jones, quarterback Cam Kruse, and wide receiver David Rushing .
Looking Ahead
Murray’s commitment is likely the first of several expected from the big official visit weekend. With the summer recruiting calendar now in full swing, Collin Klein and his staff continue to build momentum as they prepare for the 2027 season and beyond .
