In these playoffs, Karl-Anthony Towns has completely taken charge of the New York Knicks’ offense. The team is essentially using him as a point-center, letting him both facilitate and create his own shot depending on the matchup.
That approach has worked extremely well, with New York holding a 1-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.
But Towns isn’t just excelling offensively he also made a significant defensive impact against Victor Wembanyama on Wednesday night. His two-way talent was on full display, and after the win, the former Kentucky star said he could feel the presence of his late mother.

“I don’t know what it was, but I just felt a calm and a peace that, I don’t know, had to be coming from the woman above,” Towns told ESPN.
“I felt really confident about today, I felt good. I felt like a kid. It was just fun out here. This is something that as a kid you always dream about. You always hope to be an NBA player, let alone to be in the NBA Finals.

“All day, it was just a weird feeling. It felt like I was a kid getting ready to play my Saturday AAU games and my Sunday AAU games. In a way, it felt like I was seeing her in the stands. It was fun, it was really fun, and it was really comforting.”
Towns’ mother passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. The Knicks will take the court for Game Two of the Finals tonight in San Antonio, where they enter as 5.5-point underdogs.
