After a disappointing conclusion to their 2025 season, the Phillies seemed to carry some lingering effects into the start of the new year. They opened with a (9-19) record, leading many to believe that the championship window had closed for this veteran squad. However, the decision to part ways with manager Rob Thomson sparked a turnaround that the team has managed to maintain.

In addition to the motivational boost from Thomson’s firing, the Phillies also welcomed back Zack Wheeler to the starting rotation. While the rotation has experienced some inconsistency, the return of their talented right-hander has provided a much-needed lift.

Phillies shockingly named best fit for star pitcher

As expected, with the team heating up, several key players are now being mentioned as All-Star candidates. Given that the Midsummer Classic will be held in Philadelphia, the Phillies are hopeful for strong representation. If things continue on their current path, the team could send as many as six players to the All-Star Game.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic (subscription required) recently released his All-Star roster predictions, and he rightly included Phillies closer Jhoan Durán.

Durán Having an Elite Season

One of Philadelphia’s underrated strengths this year has been the bullpen, with Durán serving as its anchor. After years of searching for a reliable closer, the Phillies made a blockbuster trade at the deadline to acquire Durán from the Minnesota Twins. He was already a strong pitcher with the Twins and has been outstanding since arriving in Philadelphia.

Durán has completely transformed the bullpen’s outlook and is fully deserving of an All-Star nod this season. He has recorded 16 saves with a 1.25 ERA, converting every save opportunity while boasting elite-level numbers.

Overall, the trade for Durán has been a major success for the Phillies, exceeding expectations. With Philadelphia excelling in close games this season, having a dominant closer to seal wins has been a tremendous advantage.
