Auburn on High Alert as Shane Beamer Turns Up the Heat to Flip Homegrown CB Aidyn Wiggins

The South Carolina Gamecocks continue to put in significant effort on the recruiting front, focusing not only on securing their current eight verbal commitments for the 2027 cycle but also on expanding the class further. This pursuit includes attempting to sway prospects who have already pledged elsewhere, such as three-star cornerback Aidyn Wiggins, an Auburn commit. Wiggins, who hails from Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C., is regarded as one of the top players in his home state.

Although Wiggins gave his commitment to Auburn earlier this month, shortly after his official visit to the Tigers on May 29, the South Carolina staff extended an offer to the in-state defensive back on Monday evening. This move came after Wiggins attended Shane Beamer’s football camp over the weekend, and he later shared the offer news via his personal X account.

According to 247Sports, Wiggins ranks as the No. 16 prospect in South Carolina and the No. 76 cornerback nationally for the 2027 class. Beyond football, he also competes in track and field, participating in the 100, 200, and 400-meter sprints. His offer sheet includes numerous Power Conference programs, such as Cincinnati, Clemson, LSU, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin, among others.

To make a serious push for Wiggins’ flip, South Carolina will likely aim to bring him to Columbia for an official visit. With trips already lined up to LSU, Cincinnati, and Virginia Tech later this month, the Gamecocks would benefit from scheduling a visit of their own in the near future.

Adding Wiggins would be a valuable boost for South Carolina’s 2027 class, which currently lacks a cornerback commitment and sits at No. 64 nationally in the team rankings. It remains to be seen whether the Gamecocks can build further momentum with the cornerback in the weeks ahead.
