Kentucky center fielder Jayce Tharnish announces return for senior season

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX18) — Jayce Tharnish, Kentucky’s starting center fielder, has confirmed he will be back with the Wildcats for his senior season, making the announcement on Sunday.

Tharnish becomes the second Wildcat with projected 2026 MLB Draft interest to publicly commit to returning to Lexington for another year, following the lead of first baseman Hudson Brown.

A native of Devon, Pennsylvania, Tharnish was an everyday presence in center field, starting all 56 games during the 2026 campaign. In his debut season within the SEC, he topped the Wildcats with a .351 batting average and also led the team in hits (84) and runs scored (64). His offensive line included 13 doubles, three triples, six home runs, and 38 RBIs. He additionally shared the team lead in total bases with 121, put up a .918 OPS, and successfully swiped 32 bases on 34 attempts.

Across his entire collegiate career, Tharnish has accumulated 200 hits and has been highly efficient on the basepaths, going 68-for-71 in stolen-base attempts.
