The Auburn football program is entering a new era with Alex Golesh at the helm, and the first-year head coach is approaching fall camp with intense seriousness and meticulous planning.
While Golesh understands that being a newcomer buys him some leeway, he’s also fully aware that the Auburn fan base has grown far less tolerant after five years of underwhelming results and puzzling defeats under Bryan Harsin and Hugh Freeze. Even in Year 1, he recognizes that there’s genuine pressure to put a noticeably more competitive product on the field.
Auburn’s fall semester doesn’t start until Aug. 17, but before that, the Tigers will spend a concentrated 13-day stretch living together with outside disruptions kept to an absolute minimum. The team checked into the Marriott at Grand National on Tuesday, and their daily routine will involve commuting to campus for morning practices and meetings, staying there through the day, and then returning to the hotel in the evening for additional sessions.

Given the large number of new faces—both on the coaching staff and among the players—this extended hotel stay is designed to foster essential camaraderie and give everyone the chance to fully immerse themselves in the singular objective: winning football games.
Golesh told Auburn 247 that the players will surrender their car keys immediately, making outside excursions nearly impossible. He described the approach as twofold: completely removing distractions, and simultaneously teaching the team what a disciplined, structured daily regimen should look like for elite competitors.
Golesh and his assistants have mapped out the camp experience with painstaking attention to detail, from minor logistical choices to purposeful bonding exercises. They’ve even been intentional about roommate assignments to encourage mentorship and growth.

According to Golesh, the pairings generally put an experienced veteran alongside a younger player, so the older guy can model expectations and offer guidance. He also noted that the schedule includes three designated off days, during which the team will do group activities like attending Hey Day, sharing a meal, and going to the movies. Aside from those breaks, the rhythm is strictly bus-to-campus, bus-to-hotel, with no outside obligations pulling anyone in different directions. The coach believes that the sheer fact of being together constantly, with nothing else competing for their attention, is what truly builds the unit.
It’s an ambitious, demanding blueprint for Auburn’s fall camp, and the hope is that all this rigorous preparation translates into tangible results once the season gets underway.
