MLB rumors: Braves’ Tarik Skubal trade cost revealed amid ‘sleeper’ status

With Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal drawing considerable trade attention, another franchise has now entered the mix. The Atlanta Braves, who are currently positioning themselves to dominate the National League East this season, have emerged as the latest team to show interest. However, a recent report sheds light on just how challenging it would be for Atlanta to actually land Skubal.

According to USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale, writing on Sunday, the asking price could be steep—potentially requiring two prospects from Atlanta’s top-10 list, with at least one ranked among the top 100 overall prospects in baseball.

The Braves have been one of the season’s most unexpected success stories, having held the top spot in the NL East for nearly the entire year. Their record now stands at 48-27.

Atlanta isn’t alone in its pursuit; they join a growing list of suitors that includes the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, and even the Tampa Bay Rays, all of whom have been linked to Skubal in some capacity.

Nightengale also noted that several executives view the Braves as the potential dark horse in the Tarik Skubal sweepstakes.

On the mound, Skubal appears to have fully recovered from his elbow injury and is once again showcasing his powerful stuff. In a Friday outing against the Chicago White Sox, he turned in a solid performance, helping Detroit secure a win while racking up eight strikeouts.

As for whether Skubal will actually be dealt, the situation remains unclear. Some insiders suggest the Tigers may not even be entertaining offers at this point, while others, such as Ken Rosenthal, believe a trade is all but inevitable.

Only time will provide the answer. For now, the Tigers’ ace continues to generate widespread interest, having already captured the American League Cy Young Award in both 2024 and 2025. Friday’s start against Chicago also showcased his intensity, as he became embroiled in a heated exchange with a White Sox player.
