The Philadelphia Phillies opened the season stuck in a deep rut, and that rough stretch ultimately cost Rob Thomson his managerial position, paving the way for Don Mattingly to take over on an interim basis. Since then, Mattingly has steered the club with impressive results, lifting them into second place in the National League East, trailing the Atlanta Braves by only four games as of Saturday’s action. A revitalized pitching staff has played a significant role in the resurgence, with Cristopher Sánchez and Zack Wheeler anchoring the rotation effectively.

Although Jesús Luzardo and Aaron Nola have had their share of difficulties, both are beginning to show signs of rounding back into form. For Philadelphia, this reversal has been nothing short of remarkable.
As the Trade Deadline approaches on August 3, the team’s recent surge puts them in a fascinating spot. Should the Phillies maintain this level of play through that date, the front office will likely shift into buyer mode. Early in the season, expectations pointed toward selling, given the underwhelming production from their veteran core. Now, however, the focus has turned toward chasing another postseason berth and a championship, though they’ll likely need an additional piece or two to complete the puzzle.
Rising Star Making Noise in Tampa Bay

Ever since Junior Caminero arrived in the majors in 2023, he has consistently displayed a remarkable knack for launching home runs. Though 2024 was officially his rookie campaign, he appeared in just 43 games that year. It was 2025 when Caminero truly announced himself to the baseball world, crushing 45 homers for the Rays, competing in his first Home Run Derby, and earning the starting nod at third base for the American League in the All-Star Game.
This season, Caminero has been the driving force behind Tampa Bay’s push for contention, helping propel the club to a 46-33 record, good for second in the American League behind only the New York Yankees. His immense power has been a key catalyst, most recently highlighted by a three-homer performance in a 13-2 rout of the Kansas City Royals. With another All-Star selection all but certain, Caminero could very well carry the Rays on a deep October run if their current trajectory holds.
