Pistons Pick Up Contract Options On Daniss Jenkins, Tolu Smith

The Pistons have exercised their team options for the 2026/27 season on guard Daniss Jenkins and big man Tolu Smith, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith on Twitter.
Jenkins’ option comes in at $4MM, while Smith’s is set at $2,411,090. Smith’s salary carries a non-guaranteed clause that remains in effect until January 10.

Jenkins emerged as one of the NBA’s most notable success stories this past season, transitioning from a two-way contract into a key contributor for a Pistons squad that finished with the East’s top record.
After going undrafted in 2024 out of St. John’s, the guard appeared in 72 regular-season contests, starting 19 of them, and put up 9.3 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.3 rebounds across 20.2 minutes per night.

He connected on 40.8% of his field goals and 37.4% from deep, ultimately gaining such confidence from Detroit’s coaching staff that he regularly featured in high-leverage late-game situations.
Jenkins also logged 14 playoff appearances, three of which were starts, delivering averages of 9.1 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.6 rebounds in 22.7 minutes per outing.
His two-way deal was upgraded to a two-year, $8MM contract shortly after the trade deadline, and he is expected to remain a significant piece of Detroit’s backcourt rotation heading into next season.

As for Smith, he was elevated from his two-way pact to a standard contract just before the regular season wrapped up.

The big man spent the bulk of his year with the Motor City Cruise in the G League but still saw action in 15 regular-season games for the Pistons, contributing 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per contest.
The Mississippi State alum also made three brief postseason appearances. With Isaiah Stewart now headed to Memphis via trade, Smith could find himself in the mix for frontcourt minutes with Detroit next year.
