Sacramento Kings rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr. has already made it known that he would welcome the chance to share the backcourt with All-Star big man Domantas Sabonis. And while Sabonis remaining with the Kings next season is a very real scenario, at least one NBA insider has floated a multi-team swap that could address needs across multiple rosters.
Zach Harper of The Athletic recently laid out a three-team framework involving Sacramento, the Toronto Raptors, and the Detroit Pistons. Under the proposal, the Kings would shed a pair of sizable contracts while also reuniting general manager Scott Perry with a former player of his. Toronto, meanwhile, would land Sabonis, and Detroit would come away with Malik Monk.

“The Raptors have been connected to Sabonis in trade chatter for a while now, and here they finally get him to bolster their offensive firepower,” Harper wrote. “That move would give Toronto a starting five of Immanuel Quickley, Ja’Kobe Walter, Brandon Ingram, Scottie Barnes, and Sabonis.
For a roster that has often struggled to score, this could be a real shot in the arm… Sacramento would free up some salary-cap breathing room, bring in a relatively young player on an expiring deal in Barrett—whom they could extend or move later and add a more budget-friendly option at center in Poeltl.”

As for Detroit, the motivation is fairly straightforward. Though the Pistons would have to give up 20-year-old wing Ron Holland—selected fifth overall in the 2024 draft the youngster has yet to make a significant impact at the pro level, posting just 7.3 points per game on 45 percent shooting from the field over 159 career appearances.
