Phillies-Twins trade prediction sends $6.2M All-Star arm to Philadelphia for rotation consistency

The Philadelphia Phillies were once baseball’s worst team, with their season appearing beyond repair. Early on, they made a managerial switch, firing Rob Thomson a move that has since turned out to be a positive milestone.

At one stage, the Phillies lost more than a week’s worth of games in a row, giving them the longest active losing streak in the majors at the time.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote, “The longest losing streak in baseball now belongs to the Philadelphia Phillies, who’ve dropped eight straight and share the National League’s worst record with the Mets at 8-16. Their run differential of -50 is also the league’s worst by 15 runs.”

Since then, the Phillies have fought back to 28-27, moving just above .500. While their rotation has shown promise, concerns persist around Andrew Painter and Aaron Nola.

As SI’s Nick Ziegler noted, “As the Phillies aim to contend, Luzardo is critical. Philadelphia boasts one of the league’s best duos in Cristopher Sanchez and Zack Wheeler, but the team needs their lefty to step up as a reliable third option especially with rookie Andrew Painter still developing on the job and Aaron Nola once again struggling.”

Now back in playoff contention, it makes sense for Philadelphia to seek another starting pitcher. One potential candidate is Minnesota Twins’ Joe Ryan.

SI’s Jackson Roberts wrote, “The Phillies’ sluggish start is thankfully behind them, but it revealed plenty of flaws that need fixing if they want a fifth straight postseason berth. Outfield, rotation, and bullpen are all clear needs, and Alec Bohm’s hold on third base could vanish by the deadline if he doesn’t pick up the pace.”

Ryan has enjoyed consistent success throughout his career and was even seen as a dark-horse Cy Young contender entering this season. He also earned an All-Star selection in the American League last year.

Ryan is making $6.2 million this season, a manageable figure for Philadelphia. Adding him to a rotation that already features Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sánchez would add significant depth. If Aaron Nola finds his form again, the Phillies could have a rotation capable of causing major problems in October.
