On Monday, Auburn football secured its fourth top-100 recruit for the 2027 class with a commitment from four-star defensive back Chance Gilbert. He currently ranks as the third-highest recruit in Auburn’s 15th-ranked 2027 class, trailing only four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook and four-star linebacker Isaac McNeil.
A native of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Gilbert attends East Coweta High School. At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, he brings elite speed and agility likely a product of his track & field background. As a sophomore, he recorded 44 tackles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Unsurprisingly, his offer sheet is impressive. Gilbert chose Auburn over programs like Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Oregon, among others. In essence, he had his pick of nearly any school in the nation and ultimately bought into Alex Golesh’s vision.
Gilbert becomes the third defensive back to pledge to Auburn this cycle, joining three-star prospects Aidyn Wiggins and Nash Johnson III.
His rankings reflect his talent: according to 247Sports’ composite ratings, Gilbert is the No. 56 overall prospect nationwide, the No. 8 safety, and the No. 8 recruit out of Georgia (the Peach State).
