Auburn has landed a major pass-rushing prospect for the 2027 recruiting class.
The Tigers secured a commitment from four-star edge defender Rion Jackson, who made the announcement during a ceremony on Wednesday, choosing Auburn over Virginia Tech.
Jackson’s reveal included a dramatic fake-out: he first picked up a Virginia Tech hat, and family members even displayed Hokies gear before he ultimately confirmed his commitment to Auburn.
This is a notable addition for Auburn’s 2027 class. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Jackson is currently the No. 371 overall recruit and the No. 33 edge rusher in his cycle.
A Maryland native, Jackson had a natural geographic draw to Virginia Tech, which is much closer to home than Auburn. Still, Alex Golesh and his coaching staff managed to overcome that distance and earn his pledge. Jackson is also ranked as the No. 7 recruit in Maryland for this cycle.
Auburn first offered Jackson a scholarship back in April 2025 and continued to pursue him through the transition to Golesh’s staff.
With Jackson on board, Auburn now has 17 commits in the 2027 class, which ranks 12th nationally according to 247Sports Composite.
