Kentucky transfer an experience basket ball player trains with Dominique Hawkins

In preparation for the upcoming season, several Kentucky players have been working out with personal basketball trainers and sharing clips of their progress online. Over the past two weeks, Malachi Moreno, Braydon Hawthorne, Justin McBride, and Zoom Diallo have all posted training footage.

On Thursday, incoming transfer guard Jerone Morton joined the trend—but unlike others training in California or Texas, Morton is honing his skills just a short distance from Lexington alongside former Wildcat and fan favorite Dominique Hawkins.

Hawkins shared photos of their gym session on social media, captioning the post, “Trust the work.”

Like Morton, Hawkins grew up in Kentucky dreaming of playing for the Wildcats. After a standout performance in the KHSAA Sweet 16, he earned a scholarship and went on to play four years at Kentucky. Though his playing time was limited during his first three seasons, Hawkins became a key reserve as a senior in 2016-17 and was named to the SEC All-Tournament team.

Despite their different playing styles, the role Hawkins filled on that 2016-17 squad a reliable bench presence capable of providing a spark could mirror what Morton is asked to do for this year’s team.

It’s always great to see Kentucky players from different eras connecting.

Players are set to begin arriving on campus in the first week of June, which is just around the corner.
