MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Collin Klein era on the recruiting trail continues to gain momentum. On Wednesday, the Kansas State Wildcats secured a significant recruiting victory, flipping three-star athlete Brooklyn Maxey from his commitment to the Louisville Cardinals .
Maxey, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect from Tampa, Florida’s Carrollwood Day School, announced his decision to join the Wildcats’ 2027 recruiting class following an official visit to Manhattan . He is rated as the No. 878 overall prospect in the 2027 class and the No. 62 athlete nationally by the 247Sports Composite .
A Flip in the Making

Although Maxey had been committed to Louisville since mid-April, his recruitment remained active, with Kansas State persistently pursuing him . The Wildcats’ coaching staff made it clear from the start that they would not be deterred by his commitment status.
“They told me straight up they didn’t care that I was committed,” Maxey told Rivals. “They told me for two or three months they were going to flip me. I was on the phone with them every day, sometimes multiple times a day, and I developed a really strong relationship with the coaches” .
That persistent effort paid off. After his official visit, Maxey’s decision became clear, and his mother played a significant role in the final choice. “She told me, ‘This is where you need to be,'” Maxey said .
For Kansas State, the appeal of the program’s culture and coaching staff were decisive factors. Maxey expressed strong confidence in first-year head coach Collin Klein’s offensive acumen and the development he can receive from wide receivers coach Matt Ward .
“I think Coach Klein is the best play-caller in college football, and Coach Ward is one of the best receiver coaches in the country. Getting developed by them is going to be huge,” Maxey stated .
He also highlighted the unique atmosphere of playing for the Wildcats in Manhattan. “When you play football at K-State, you’re the biggest thing in the city. The whole town revolves around it, and every game is packed. That place is jumping,” he said .
On-Field Impact
Maxey is projected to play wide receiver for the Wildcats, a position where he has already demonstrated significant production. In his junior season at Carrollwood Day, he recorded 42 receptions for 764 yards and seven touchdowns . He also displayed his playmaking ability by returning two kickoffs for touchdowns .
His size and athleticism, however, could also allow him to contribute at other positions if needed . Beyond Louisville and Kansas State, Maxey held scholarship offers from a host of major programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Kentucky, Penn State, and Texas .
With Maxey’s commitment, Kansas State now has 22 verbal commitments in its 2027 recruiting class, a group that is ranked among the top 30 nationally by both 247Sports and Rivals . The addition continues a very productive June for Klein and his staff, who have added nine players this month alone .
Maxey has indicated that this commitment will be final. “After this, I’m shutting my recruitment down, and I’m locked in here at K-State,” he said .
