Pistons forward Harris reportedly headed to Spurs

On Wednesday, ESPN became the first to report that Harris, 33, had reached an agreement on a two-year, $31 million free-agent contract with the youthful Spurs squad, which is built around Victor Wembanyama.

Harris spent the previous two seasons in Detroit during his second tenure with the franchise, and he was instrumental in their resurgence, which featured 60 regular-season victories and the team’s first playoff series win since 2008.

In San Antonio, he will be joining a club that is aiming to make a return to the NBA Finals after suffering a loss to the New York Knicks in the championship round.

The announcement arrived on the opening full day of the NBA’s free-agency negotiation window. While no contracts can be formally executed until July 6, verbal commitments were already being widely reported.

The future landing spot of LeBron James remained a major talking point after the NBA’s all-time leading scorer informed the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday that he would depart following eight seasons with the franchise and pursue a free-agent deal elsewhere for a record 24th campaign.

As analysts weighed the potential benefits and drawbacks of various James destinations ranging from his former clubs in Cleveland and Miami to a possible pairing with Stephen Curry in Golden State the Lakers moved swiftly to make several acquisitions as they reshape the roster around 27-year-old Slovenian standout Luka Doncic.

According to reports, the Lakers have acquired center Walker Kessler, known for his shot-blocking ability, in a trade with Utah that sends two first-round draft picks to the Jazz.

Kessler, 24, appeared in just five games last season due to a shoulder injury.

However, the 7-foot-2-inch big man posted averages of 11.1 points and 12.2 rebounds in the prior campaign, and his 4.6 offensive boards per contest led the league in 2024-25.

Shortly after that trade surfaced, the Lakers reportedly came to terms with three free agents: big man Sandro Mamukelashvili, guard Quentin Grimes, and guard Colin Sexton.

In other reported transactions on Wednesday, the Boston Celtics secured free-agent center Mitchell Robinson, who just finished a championship run with the New York Knicks.

Free-agent guard Mike Conley is also said to be heading to Boston, while free-agent guard Norman Powell—who averaged 21.7 points per game during an All-Star season with Miami has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the Chicago Bulls.
