In his second NBA Summer League outing, the former Blue Devil didn’t contribute a whole lot on the offensive end, but his defensive performance was exactly what Duke supporters have grown accustomed to and maybe even a bit more. That side of his game was on full display.
One sequence in particular is bound to draw plenty of gasps and applause from fans, and likely some reactions from his teammates and the San Antonio front office as well.
Check it out. Former Michigan standout Yaxel Lendeborg appears poised for an uncontested layup, but Brown charges into the picture and elevates spectacularly to swat the ball out of bounds.
This isn’t the crafty, ground-level defense we witnessed at Duke, where Brown primarily relied on outmaneuvering opponents with his wits. This shows some impressive vertical lift. Had he timed his jump just a fraction of a second later, he might have needed to keep an eye on the rim, since his head would have been dangerously close to it.
It probably felt especially satisfying to pull that off against Lendeborg, given that Duke defeated Michigan late in the regular season and missed out on a chance to face them again in the Final Four.
