The newest episode of the Brotherhood Podcast just dropped, and this time it’s Dame Sarr sitting down with Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje.
It’s a natural pairing both players share time with FC Barcelona on their résumés, so they trade stories about that experience and how their paths eventually led to Duke.
When Sarr asked Boumtje Boumtje what he enjoys away from the court, his answer is bound to win over Duke fans and the staff alike:
“Honestly, I’m pretty low-key. Basketball is basically my whole life. My mom keeps telling me I need other interests.
If I’m not on the court, I’m watching games or walking my little brother through drills and teaching him the game. I even loved that go-karting outing we did last week that’s exactly the kind of thing I’m into.”
Sounds like he’ll slot right into the culture.
On why he committed to Duke, he added:
“It came down to instinct. I had great options, but what sealed it was this feeling if I chose anywhere else, I’d wonder what I missed at Duke. With Duke, I never had that doubt about other schools.
Like, no disrespect to UNC it would’ve been fine but I knew I’d regret not picking Duke. So between that, the overall vibe, and Coach John’s vision for my role, that’s what pulled me in.”
Quick note: Boumtje Boumtje mentions early on that he goes by JoJo, so we’ll stick with that.
Also, he shouts out coaching his 14-year-old brother, Robert. No word yet on whether he’s a rising prospect, but don’t be surprised if another Boumtje Boumtje emerges down the line.
