Milan Momcilovic is currently participating in the NBA Draft Combine, and on Wednesday, he provided a brief update on his situation as the withdrawal deadline approaches.
During an interview with CBS Sports’ Isaac Trotter, Momcilovic spoke about the draft process and his intention to wait until the May 27 deadline before making a final decision.
“I’m still focused on the draft,” Momcilovic said. “I haven’t talked to any colleges yet, but I’m sure if I end up going back, there’s a spot for me somewhere. I’m just continuing with this process.
“The deadline is May 27, so I’ve got a couple of weeks. I’ll finish up this week, and then I have some team workouts scheduled over the next couple of weeks.”
Trotter added that Kentucky, St. John’s, and Louisville are reportedly in the mix for the Iowa State transfer.
Momcilovic mentioned that he’s aiming for a first-round guarantee, and it seems he’s not very enthusiastic about being selected in the second round or playing on a two-way deal.
“If there are guaranteed contracts, that would be great. If it’s late in the second round, those are usually two-way contracts then I’d probably go back to school. We’ll see,” he said.
As for what he’s seeking in a potential college destination, Momcilovic wants a place where he can excel while also making a deep postseason run.
“If I return to college, I want a system where I can play well and improve my chances of making the NBA the following year. Hopefully, I’ll be on a good team that can go far in the tournament,” he said.
If the Wildcats are able to bring back Malachi Moreno, adding Momcilovic would certainly make them appear, on paper, like a team capable of reaching the Final Four. However, that remains a big question mark at this point, given that Momcilovic is intent on staying in the draft if he can secure a first-round selection.
